It has been over a week since I returned from the Fringe, and I am finally able to reflect on the absolute fever dream that was this August.
I performed Horses 26 times, watched over 60 shows, and did an additional 30+ guest spots across various nights all around Edinburgh. I directed 4 shows, won 3 awards, and received over 11 five-star reviews. The show seated 140 people, and we sold out more than 20 times.
I have worked at 14 Edinburgh Fringes over the years, taking on roles from front of house, bar staff, venue technician, I've directed Operas, managed drag nights, performed in double acts, improv shows, and solo shows—both stand-up and clown. It’s fair to say that I have never experienced a Fringe like this one, and I know I never will again. These kinds of Fringes only happen once, and it has been incredibly special. I have cried with joy at the most unexpected moments, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who saw the show, supported my work, had my back, and made sure I ate during the Fringe. I lost 14 lbs in August, but thankfully, I’ve gained almost all of it back. I am immensely proud of Sam Blythe, Katie Norris, Amy Matthews, and Ted Hill for their superb shows and Fringe runs. They all deserve awards.
There are so many people to thank, so here they are:
Thank you, Lucy, Reuben, Stella, Harry, Sarah, Roxy, Alex—everyone at Mick Perrin Worldwide.
Thank you, Gaby and Allegra at Gaby Jerrard PR.
Thank you to the Pleasance Above team! The Von Trapp children of Pleasance Above, who volunteer and work tirelessly to ensure that shows go up and down on time while keeping both the audience and artists safe—Lewis, Sam, Daisy, KM, Starling—I couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you, Xander, the most phenomenal techie that a horse has ever had the opportunity to work with.
Thank you, Trygve Wakenshaw, for being a superb mime mentor.
Thank you to The House of Flying Stitches for the incredible costume!
Thank you to David and Caroline for letting me live in your home.
This was fun, it was madness, and I am so, so happy.
Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming tour dates of the show!
Love,
Elf Lyons
